System Support Co.
Mr. Hiroyuki Bushigai, General Manager, Human Resources Dept.

2021.10.18

Established in 1980 in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. In addition to the Kanazawa headquarters, the company has offices in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka, as well as many group companies.
We provide a variety of services to support the entire system cycle, from consulting, planning and development to maintenance of ICT-based systems.
We provide multifaceted support for our customers' ICT environments by leveraging our experience and technical capabilities in a wide range of fields, including medical care, distribution, and manufacturing. We contribute to companies and society with a variety of IT solutions.

The written test that I used to use is no longer available due to the corona disaster.
Paper-based tests take time to grade.
Costly to implement system
Written examinations can now be taken online.
Grading is automatic, saving time and human cost.
Low cost and many IDs can be managed.

We will not compromise on quality and speed in our recruitment activities for the Corona disaster.

First of all, could you tell us about your company's business?

We are a system development company that provides total support from the consulting area.

["Bushigakigaisama.]
We are a system development company generally speaking, but we have a high percentage of direct dealings with end users and provide total support from the area of consulting to design, development, maintenance, and operation.
Our representative often says, "We want to go beyond supporting the system and support the customer's business itself.

Case Studies

You have been using ━learningBOX for about a year now, so please tell us how you came to use it.

I came across learningBOX through the keyword "Web-based quiz".

["Bushigakigaisama.]
We used to conduct written examinations on paper, but the Corona disaster made it difficult to conduct such examinations. In particular, for the 2022 recruitment, we had to basically conduct the selection process via the Web because of the Corona disaster at the start. Under such circumstances, the major issue was how to conduct the written test.

We thought about using the aptitude tests provided by recruitment support companies, but the price was not worth it, and building our own system would be costly.
I have been looking for various web-based tools for the written exam, but I have not been able to find anything that I think is good. There are a lot of training tools out there, but again, training and written exams are fundamentally different.

In my search, I saw an article about "quizzes made into the web". I thought that written tests are also quizzes, so I thought I could find it if I searched for the quiz aspect. I searched again and came across learningBOX.

That's interesting! Originally, learningBOX started out as a quiz-focused system called "Quiz Generator", so it might have been a good match! What were the effects of introducing the system in that way?

It has made the grading process more efficient and the selection process smoother.

["Bushigakigaisama.]
On paper, we used to grade by hand, but now we can grade automatically, which is very efficient.
With paper, for example, it would take about an hour to grade 50 students, even if it took one minute per student. That time and effort has been greatly improved.

At the beginning of the selection process, we always ask all students to take a written test using the learningBOX. If we had used the aptitude test provided by a recruitment support company at the beginning, it would have been quite costly.

How do you feel about the value of creating your own problems?

It helps us because we can select based on our own unique values and selection criteria.

["Bushigakigaisama.]
If you want to have more questions in a certain category, you can control that, and the best thing is to be able to create a test that reflects your company's values and selection criteria.

Do you have any plans or wishes to expand the use of learningBOX in the future?

It would be nice to be able to change the grading for each category and the passing score in various ways.

["Bushigakigaisama.]
I don't have any major complaints since the software has been customized quite a bit each time. There are a few things that I wish I could do, such as create a shape, but in general, I can use it without any inconvenience.

If I had to pick one, I would say that our written exam has several categories within one exam, and it would be nice if we could grade each category. At the moment, we can only grade the total, so we output the answers in CSV format and use an Excel file that we have prepared in-house for grading. It would be great if this could be done on learningBOX.
For example, in a quiz, there are beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, and you can see how many points you got in each level.

What other functions do you use?

We have detailed settings for fraud prevention.

["Bushigakigaisama.]
You can only take the test once, it cannot be interrupted, and there is a time limit. It is not possible to take the test with a smart phone.

However, there is a limit to how much we can do to prevent cheating, so I think we have to leave that part up to the conscience of everyone who takes the test. This is an issue for the future.

They are currently planning to switch from a shared server to a dedicated server.

There are a surprisingly large number of cases where IDs cannot be used due to duplication, and we are preparing for the transition with your support.

["Bushigakigaisama.]
Yes, that's right. At first, I thought there would be no problem, but in a shared server, there are unexpectedly many users with the same ID, and they end up duplicating. I think that's how many people are using learningBOX. We are now preparing for the migration with your support.
If we delete the IDs immediately after the recruitment test, the total number of IDs registered will be small and we can operate the system without duplication, but if we delete the IDs immediately, we will not be able to access the data later. However, if we delete the IDs immediately, we will not be able to access the data later. Since the cost of your system is low, we chose to secure a large number of registrations rather than take a risk.

Is there anything you would like to say to people who are thinking of introducing the system in the future?

Your support staff has been wonderful and very helpful.

["Bushigakigaisama.]
As I installed the learningBOX, I was reminded that whether the system is good or bad is not
-Is it customizable?
-Can you be flexible after implementation?
-Is the user interface easy to use?
I believe that it is important to
In this respect, I think your system satisfies all of them.

I had no trouble at all in creating the problems, and it was a smooth process. The first time I created a problem, it took me less than half a day.

Also, I've been meaning to tell you this, but while the basic usability of the system is as important as I've mentioned, I think the key to deciding whether or not you want to continue using the system next year or the year after that is the people in charge of supporting you. I believe that "people" are the most important factor.

From the very beginning, I found your staff to be very polite and trustworthy. He listened carefully to our requests and clearly told us what he could and could not do.

Thank you so much for your kind words! So you think that was actually the real deciding factor?

Support is the most important aspect of post-implementation operations.

["Bushigakigaisama.]
That's exactly right. If the support staff, who are the point of contact with the customers, are skilled and responsive, you can be sure that the system will be useful for a long time. I'm sure you have a lot of users, but you respond quickly and are very helpful.

I am in charge of human resources, so when I look at a company's website, I not only look at the corporate page but also the recruitment page. That way, I can get a general idea of what the company is trying to achieve and what kind of organization it is. Your company's recruitment page is very comprehensive, isn't it (laughs)?

We are also relying on you for the server migration we are asking you to do now, as well as when we will be using learningBOX for training and other purposes other than recruitment exams!

Afterword

What did you think of the case study interview with System Support Corporation?
It was a revelation to us that the request for a "web-based version of the written test" was connected with the origin of learningBOX, which was to create quizzes.
I believe that all companies put a lot of effort into hiring, and do so carefully. That's why I found it very helpful to see how they were able to efficiently conduct the subsequent selection process by using the system in the early stages of the recruitment process.

We are really thrilled to hear your praise for our support response. We will continue to work with System Support to make sure that they can make even more use of learningBOX in their operations.

Thank you very much for taking time out of your schedule to meet with us.
We appreciate this opportunity.

Thank you, Hiroyuki Bushigaki-gai, for taking the time to answer our questions!
