Please tell us about the situation surrounding your company and your thoughts on the business.

We pride ourselves on being a unicorn company, which is a fashionable term nowadays.
In April, more than 20 people, including new graduates, joined the company (more than 40 people are expected next year). The company may not be well known yet, but there are some amazing people in the company, including recent graduates of Tokyo University, Kyoto University and Tokyo Institute of Technology, and mid-career hires who have been executives at prestigious companies. One of the key elements is human resource development.

One of the social backgrounds is that the need for home health care will increase even more in the future. In fact, if you ask patients, many of them say that they want to spend their last days at home. Before the war, there were many cases of people spending their final days in their homes and end-of-life care at home, but with the rapid post-war growth, many hospitals were built. So, in a peculiar way in Japan, spending one’s last days in a hospital has become a major trend. Overseas, especially in Europe, many people don’t spend their last days in a hospital, but rather at home. In Japan, according to a questionnaire survey, 70% or 80% of people want to spend their last days at home, so the government had to create a system that would allow people to spend their last days at home without having to build more hospitals. For those who want to go home instead of staying in the hospital, the government is trying to provide medical care that allows them to stay at home until the end of their lives. In line with the government’s policy of supporting people so that they can stay at home, we are supporting the human resource development of medical corporations.

Please tell us why you introduced learningBOX and how you are using it.

Currently, about half of our employees are involved in supporting the operation of home health clinics and medical treatment.
We are always looking for people who want to be involved in home health care, including new graduates, because home health care is a relatively new field that is different from general outpatient hospitals and clinics, and we need to popularize it more and more in the future. In this context, just because you have experience in a hospital outpatient setting does not mean that you can provide home health care. Therefore, in order to learn about such things, we hold a two-week group training course for those who have joined a medical corporation. I’m actually taking a two-week group training course and listening to what I don’t understand during the course, but the content is quite difficult to understand. For those who have joined the company from a different industry, there is an image that medical care itself is new to them, or that home health care is different even if they have other medical experience. So, we decided to introduce e-learning because we felt that we had to supplement the study with e-learning because it was hard to remember what we were learning.
Initially, we envisioned the use of another tool as a video training tool within the company. However, when I actually used it, there were various restrictions, and when I contacted the provider company about the course management function that I wanted to use, they did not give me an accurate answer, and I was somehow left unsure. After reviewing various tools, we decided that your company’s learningBOX was the best choice and decided to implement it. We felt that your tool was superior in terms of selection in the following points.

(1) It has a function as a Learning Management System (LMS) and can manage the history.
(2) The cost is low.
(3) The provision of various UI’s that allow administrators to create problems on the spot, and the design on the user side must be excellent and compatible with smart phones.
(4) SCORM support and the ability to import content created with an authoring tool.

In addition, because there are so many problems at medical institutions and because of the power harassment prevention measures that will be mandated by the government from next year, we produced harassment training with a power harassment-focused authoring tool called iSpring and released it in June and July.

Traditionally, video content has been produced in Premiere Pro, but this is the first time we’ve used iSpring. The authoring tool was very easy to use when it was called RoboDemo before it was acquired by Macromedia, but the current Adobe Captivate has changed its usability, and to be honest, it’s hard to use. In addition, a free tool called Microsoft Producer, which can be converted from PowerPoint, was also easy to use, but it has been discontinued due to the fact that it uses a lot of DHTML. We were informed that iSpring works well with Learning Box, and after implementing the English version, we found it to be a very easy to use authoring tool. iSpring’s ease of use is reminiscent of Microsoft Producer. iSpring can be combined with narration and lecture videos based on PowerPoint and is easy to produce, so we can easily create rich content that combines PowerPoint and video lectures, as opposed to the video-centric nature of Premiere Pro. Moreover, there is an announcement that iSpring will be translated into Japanese this month, so it will be easier to use. This harassment training e-learning is based on actual cases of harassment in the field, so it has a very realistic feel and is full of illustrations that make it easy to imagine. As a result, it has been very well received by the medical community, and many of them want other members to take the course as well.

Have you had any feedback from staff who have actually used the learning box?

Some people, especially those who have changed jobs from different industries, tell me that you provide solid training and education, but even if you receive the training and education, if you don’t keep it up, it will be lost in your memory. Use the learning box as a review image and say, “Oh, that’s what I did today. Or, I’m using the content of the course as a video material as it is. Therefore, there were some contents that I didn’t understand, and some contents that I didn’t get the image of, but I could learn them repeatedly on my smartphone during my free time or commuting time… In summary, there were the following responses from users

(1) We can respond to those who attended the group training but want to review, or those who couldn’t attend the group training and want to learn by themselves.
(2) It’s helpful to be able to study on my smartphone during my commute, and it’s helpful to be able to solve the problems over and over again to become proficient.
(3) I want other members who have been there since before the training started to learn.

Some words are hard to remember if you only hear them once, because it’s a medical specialty. You may be familiar with the Ebbing House forgetting curve, which means that if you take the training and leave it as it is, you will forget 67% of it after one day, and if you leave it as it is, you will forget 79% of it after one month.
That’s what this learning box does, and by repeating the review, you can make it stick in your memory.
In many cases, you will become proficient at it by repeating it about 10 times.
In the beginning, I had the impression that he seemed anxious because of the specialized content, but as the training progressed, he gradually became more confident and by the end of the training, he was able to go into the field with confidence because of the content! I was very happy to receive such feedback, because I felt that there was a synergistic effect between the group training and e-learning.

The medical industry requires a lot of expertise, but is it possible to check the actual content that is being created?

Of course, that’s okay.
First of all, the staff who visit home health care providers are called “support staff,” and the support staff (SS) training for developing support staff is summarized in this document. As I mentioned earlier, many medical institutions are becoming increasingly involved in home health care, which the government has been putting a lot of effort into, and it is essential to train front-line staff.
This site provides content on the current state of medical care in Japan, home health care that is compatible with one’s own lifestyle, the complex medical fee system for home health care, and diseases that the elderly are prone to.

As an initial training course, we are mainly working on 12 items. You will spend two weeks learning this content when you join the company to 100% comprehension.

In addition, we have a lineup of simple video recordings of lectures, from one in which I speak because I was asked to speak in the style of Akira Ikegami, to one in which the super doctors appear one after another in the commentary on major diseases, which is not a certain high school. This includes an easy-to-understand 30-minute video lecture (ex. How Dementia Works and Prescription Drugs) by a physician in the specialty field.

In the case of your company, the basic input form is in place, so I honestly believe anyone can create one. It is very easy to use and we appreciate the instant UI without using any special authoring tools. As a matter of fact, the “vehicle management” part of the SS training I mentioned earlier was not created by me, but by other staff members. The fact that it’s so intuitive and easy to create without having to use anything, in particular, is really great.

I’m sure there have been some problems with the functionality during the actual operation of the system. What was the response of our staff at that time?

I greatly appreciate the fact that you responded to our requests.
I don’t see it as much of a problem that a glitch will happen. I’m assuming that the system is going to have some kind of problem. When something happens, the response is quick, and I feel the human response and technical skills are excellent.
(I think it’s probably because it’s developed by people who know the technology and not outsourced.) Specifically.

(1) The problem of not being able to change the size of the image due to the image linking problem was corrected by teaching us how to fix it on a provisional HTML basis, and we were able to officially fix it later. .
(2) It’s a drag-and-drop problem format, and if you can’t do it well on your iPhone, you fixed (the stylesheet) right away. .

Please tell us about your future prospects and what you expect from learningBOX.

e-learning is very popular for training support staff in-home health care, so we will continue to enrich our content. We are also promoting e-learning for MD (managing director) and general manager training courses at hospitals, which require a wide range of knowledge, but the percentage of successful test-takers is low, so we are storing videos of lectures as supplementary lectures so that participants can watch each other’s presentations. In this case, too, we have the students repeat the lessons to improve their proficiency. In the near future, we are planning an e-learning program to help people understand how dialysis works. It also established a vision within the team. It may sound a bit grandiose to say, “Continue to make surprises a global standard,” but from this month, with the deregulation of national regulations, several dozen of our employees will be posted overseas and we plan to start training them to bring overseas personnel to work in Japan. We are thinking of a plan to invite Vietnamese people who want to work as caregivers in Japan to start training in Vietnam using the learning box and then come to Japan. We have already issued IDs to our employees from Myanmar to help them learn. I believe that education will continue to expand to include such foreigners in the future.
Lastly, as a training professional with a teaching license and Microsoft trainer certification, I highly value your company’s learningBOX from the perspective of a training professional who has delivered training content for major telecommunications companies, government offices, and universities, including public e-learning courses. I’m sure there are a lot of different technical orders compared to other corporate users, but I’m looking forward to learningBOX in the future.
