Deepen your knowledge of beauty and health for your customers

First of all, could you tell us about your company's business?

Mr. Nakano:The company is mainly engaged in mail order sales of health foods and cosmetics. We are also involved in the development of some raw materials, so we also have an aspect of a manufacturer. We have been in business for 31 years this year, and the entire company is working day and night to further develop our business.

What led you to introduce learningBOX?

Dear person in charge:It was part of our internal IT initiative to keep pace with the DX era. We have a branch office that functions as a call center in addition to our headquarters, and we have always wanted to provide consistent training at both locations. It would take a lot of time and money if staff from either location had to travel to conduct training in one location. The idea of implementing a system to solve this problem was born.

Before the introduction of the system, we used to conduct face-to-face training sessions in conference rooms or other locations, but that was also difficult because we had to do it every month.

That is a lot of work. What kind of content is the training?

Mr. Nakano:Since we develop and sell our own health foods and cosmetics, all employees must have the same knowledge of these products. Every month, we hold product study sessions led by the person in charge.

It is of course necessary to study new products when they are released, but it is also important to deepen the understanding of existing products. Also, if there is an issue that is currently being addressed in society, we ask them to do their best to think about it every month while adding their perspective that our products may be able to solve the problem from this aspect.

Introduction of learningBOX has greatly streamlined employee training

What effect have you had with the introduction of the learningBOX?

Dear person in charge:For example, when administering a test, we used to print the quiz on paper, distribute it, collect the answer sheets, and score each student one by one, which was a very analog and time-consuming method.

The fact that all of this is now automatically tallied and the process of averaging scores is no longer time-consuming is a great benefit.

Mr. Nakano:Another nice benefit is that we were able to eliminate the problem I mentioned earlier of traveling between the two locations to conduct the training. We were having a hard time coordinating the time because we had to do it while each of us had our own jobs.

Another issue was that the training could not be completed in one session because of the large number of participants. The person in charge of teaching was not the same each time, so even if the same thing was taught, the way it was conveyed and its nuances would be different. We were able to solve this problem, and the total efficiency of the training program was greatly improved.

Also, the introduction was in the summer of 2019, but then we entered the Corona disaster. There was a time when our company was also promoting telework, and the e-learning system helped us because we had a system in place that allowed us to take courses anytime, anywhere.

I understand that you also administer tests in your training programs. What kind of questions do you create?

Dear person in charge:Your company's "QuizGeneratorThe "Quiz Generator" (Quiz Generator) is used to create questions in a variety of formats. For example, questions that ask the user to answer in writing the name of a new product, or questions such as, "What action does the raw material in this product have?

Since the paper-based training, we have been creating questions in a variety of formats, and even after the introduction of learningBOX, we have been able to create questions in a variety of formats,True/false(○ × problem),Fill-in-the-blankand others are being created.

Mr. Nakano:They make the questions quite difficult. Call center employees and other employees who provide information to customers need to be especially well informed. Also, when advertising, they can use what they have learned in this exam in terms of where they should make a point.

In the future, we would like to enhance employee training based on career and position.

What do you think about the value of being able to create content in-house?

Dear person in charge:After all, the main focus is on training for our own products, so it is easier to learn more details and to operate in our daily business if we create the content ourselves. To make the content more useful, we create materials and hold meetings with the call center every month.

The purpose is to get feedback on the necessary knowledge, points, and tricks of the trade from the employees who receive the calls. With the advice received there, we finish up by making modifications, such as making the expressions easier to convey to the customer.

You are the sole creator of the teaching materials. How do you create them?

Dear person in charge:Basically, video materials are the main focus; they are created using PowerPoint's video creation function and a service (Microsoft Azure) for creating artificial voices.

After watching the video, the students are asked to view the PDF as a review. Then, a month later, they create a quiz with the same content in QuizGenerator and review it again as a review.

The system is set up to automatically send a reminder e-mail to those who have not yet learned the course, and more than 95% of employees take the course each month. The content of the course is designed to be as easy to understand as possible, since it is uniformly offered to employees in all departments, from those in development to those in clerical work.

That's great. Are there any other things you would like to do or plan to do with learningBOX other than training?

Mr. Nakano:First of all, employee training. We have many wonderful employees, but I am embarrassed to say that we do not yet have a solid internal training system. We would like to have training programs based on career paths and content for different levels of employees, such as "those in positions of responsibility should study this".

Our customers often purchase one product on a regular basis and use it for a long time, so we have a long relationship with them. Therefore, it is important for them to deepen their understanding of our products and get to know us better. We believe that we can make good use of this aspect as well.

I can imagine holding seminars for customers, for example. Finally, do you have any requests for learningBOX?

Dear person in charge:Yes, I think so. If I may put it that way, e-learning involves receiving video and other educational materials on the Web, and I think it may be more difficult to maintain motivation than face-to-face training. So, for example, I think it would be great if we could link real-time lectures using Zoom, etc., with learningBOX.

I think it is still possible to paste the URL of Zoom and transmit in real time from there, but it would be great if learningBOX could centralize the process of managing who is taking the classes and who is not. We would be very grateful if you could continue to consult with us on various matters.

Thank you for your participation
