The forefront of online learning! What is the LMS that supports e-learning [2021]?

On the Forefront of Online Learning! What is the LMS that Supports e-Learning [2021]? My name is Kidaoka, and I am in charge of marketing. In this article, we will introduce in detail "LMS functions and mechanisms," which are indispensable for e-learning. Recently, the number of companies introducing LMS has been increasing every year as teleworking is promoted due to the impact of the spread of the new coronavirus. ▼ This article is recommended for customers with these concerns! 1. want to conduct human resources training effectively 2. To centralize the management of internal training programs. 3. To reduce transportation and accommodation costs of employees for training, and to reduce training costs. 4. To visualize in-house know-how and share it at the organizational level. Click here to see the table of contents 1. What is LMS? 2. Standardization of LMS by SCORM 3. What has become possible through the use of LMS 4. Human Resource Education in the Corona Era 5. Summary What is LMS? LMS stands for (Learning Management System), also known as a learning management system. LMS is a system that integrates and centrally manages not only e-learning materials, learning, and grade management, but also training and course applications and learner progress. It is being developed as a platform with comprehensive functions necessary for corporate human resource development. It refers to an environment that serves as the foundation or infrastructure for systems and services that deliver e-learning via the Internet. By utilizing IT technology, learners can receive training from remote locations or from home. By utilizing an LMS, "it is possible to enhance the learning effectiveness of the entire organization while improving operational efficiency." Purpose of the LMS As the name implies, LMS was originally developed for the purpose of distributing e-learning materials created by e-learning to learners and managing learning results as data. Prior to the widespread use of the Internet, e-learning materials were used for training, with CDs or DVDs and PCs being used together. The administrator only had to deliver the CDs or DVDs to the learners and they could start learning. However, the disadvantage of the conventional method was that it was difficult to keep the learners motivated and motivated, and the administrator had no information on the learners' progress or performance. The problem was that the administrator had no way of knowing: 1. whether the learner had completed the course or not; 2. how much progress had been made; and 3. 2. how much progress has been made? 3. which courses are necessary for the learner? The training program was progressing without control over this information. In addition, there was no way to improve the training content or verify its effectiveness. That's where the LMS came in! With the advent of the LMS platform, a system is now in place to manage the information necessary for e-learning operations in an integrated manner. Administrators and educators can now acquire learner learning data and performance data in real time and strategically educate human resources. With the advent of LMS, "learners can check their own learning history and test results, and receive support and feedback at the most appropriate time. Main Functions of the LMS LMS functions can be divided into two main categories: for learners and for administrators. The two main functions of the LMS are for the learner and for the administrator: "Which materials and courses should I assign to which learners? and "How many learners are taking a course? There are many LMSs on the market with a wide variety of functions. The Japan E-Learning Consortium, a non-profit organization that promotes and standardizes e-learning, introduces the main functions of LMSs as follows ◆Main Functions of LMS 1. learner registration, modification, and deletion 2. registration of teaching materials, assignment of teaching materials to learners 3. Management of individual learner's learning history, learning progress, and grades 4. Grade aggregation and statistical analysis functions 5. Setting up a bulletin board for information sharing and sending e-mails to learners. Reference source: Japan E-Learning Consortium Brief summary of LMS features E-learning using an LMS manages the learning status on a server, so the learning status can be checked in real time. By centrally managing learning information, it can be expected to prompt appropriate action to those who are behind in learning and to continuously improve the quality of learning materials based on analysis of correct and incorrect information. Benefits for Learners Easy to understand the flow of learning from start to finish Real-time display of learning progress rate and test results helps to maintain motivation. The learning history can be viewed, so you can grasp your strong and weak areas. The ability to take courses at any time and any place (without IP restrictions, etc.) depending on the company. Advantages for Administrators ・Cost containment and rapid implementation are possible. Progress of each learner and test results can be viewed and extracted in CSV format. The system automates the tallying of student study time and test corrections, thereby reducing workload. Data can be centrally managed on the server, making it easier to manage students and course materials. In addition to being able to manage the progress and performance of all learners, the LMS is also characterized by its ability to easily grasp the strengths and weaknesses of each learner through the quantification and graphing of performance data. Standardization of LMS with SCORM SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) is a global standard for e-learning developed by the ADL (Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative), an American standards organization. SCORM is a global standard for e-learning established by ADL (Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative), an American standards organization. It is a standard for e-learning and defines specifications for combining LMS (Learning Management System) and teaching materials. It is possible to use materials from different companies as long as they are compliant with SCORM. In Japan, the Japan e-Learning Consortium certifies LMSs and content, as well as SCORM-related qualifications. The Two Roles of SCORM SCORM has two major roles. 1. to register teaching materials with the system 2. to exchange grades and other information between the system and the teaching materials *These are defined as the standard specifications, allowing for the combination of different vendor's teaching materials and LMS (Learning Management System). Advantages of SCORM Before the advent of SCORM, teaching materials created by Company A could only be used with Company A's LMS. Unless Company A and Company B had a business alliance and shared common specifications, basically, Company A's content could only be used with Company A's LMS, and Company B's content could only be used with Company B's LMS. However, with the advent of SCORM, LMS (Learning Management System) and educational materials (content) interoperability can be realized. ▼The article about SCORM is explained in detail here. What can now be achieved by using an LMS With the advent of LMS, even on-site personnel can easily manage e-learning. Learner performance data, learning materials, and even programs can now be centrally managed on the Web, reducing the burden on administrators and enabling more effective and efficient operations. The system enables quick and flexible response to student registration, student management, updating of course materials, and program maintenance while reducing costs, and enables learners to study anytime, anywhere with the latest environment and materials. By capturing such user information and learning data, such as login status, course frequency, test results, and whether or not a student has completed the prescribed course, the system is expected to provide "educational materials tailored to each individual within the company or organization and to each individual. Tatsuno Information System's LMS is an e-learning system focused on ease of use and low cost Tatsuno Information System's LMS (Learning Management System), learningBOX, is designed not from the developer's perspective, but from the user's perspective. learningBOX is an e-learning "box" that enables the construction and management of a conventional learning environment on the Web. Inside this box, learning materials such as videos and PDFs, questions and tests, and grades are stored, and the system manages the learning process. If you have any of these problems, learningBOX can solve them! 1. You already have an LMS (Learning Management System) in place, but you find it difficult to operate, set up, and understand the system. 2. You have a problem that only a person with IT knowledge can set up and manage the system. 3. I want to reduce the cost of the LMS. Here is what has changed by using learningBOX! It has been improved! We have collected some of the happy voices after the introduction of learningBOX, including the following. What are the "learningBOX implementation effects" that users have actually felt? 1. Online examinations can be taken at home in response to the new normal society! 2. Flexibility to respond immediately to requests and support was excellent! 3. the ability to study over and over again, which was very much appreciated. ⇒A list of case studies using learningBOX can be found here. Click here to see the case study of ◆Tatsuno Information System Human Resource Education in the Era of Corona The new coronavirus has caused a decline in business performance and sales, as well as a sudden introduction of teleworking, and has changed the way organizations operate and the way people work. The third wave has arrived, and many companies are still struggling to cope with it. Across Japan, economic activity has stagnated, business performance has declined significantly, and many organizations are still operating at a loss. Impact of the spread of the new coronavirus on companies By 5:00 p.m. on August 3, Tokyo Shoko Research, Inc. had reported 11 "new corona"-related business failures (with liabilities of 10 million yen or more), bringing the total number of cases since February to 385 (321 bankruptcies, 64 cases with discretionary attorney or in preparation). Although not included in the total, 12 small bankruptcies with debts of less than 10 million yen have been identified. The IT industry, which has been positively affected, actually had many business closures! Source: Chat Plus Corporation|from a survey on the impact of the new coronavirus on various industries Digital communication required in the age of coronavirus Due to the still-unabated spread of the coronavirus, many companies are now faced with the urgent task of understanding and reviewing their fixed costs and expenses in order to ensure business continuity. In some cases, costs related to human resource development, education, and training may also be subject to cost review. How can we recover and expand our business performance as an organization in the with-corona era? As we have to survive in a society coexisting with the coronavirus, the most important issue for executives and managers is how to recover and expand the business performance of their own organizations. The social changes caused by the coronavirus are an opportunity to change many things. In order to recover deteriorating business performance, recover losses, and achieve sustainable organizational growth, marketing and management strategies, human resource training, and the management skills to implement these strategies are necessary. Conclusion In this article, we have introduced in detail "LMS functions and mechanisms," which are indispensable for e-learning. While e-learning and LMS are attracting attention, many managers may be troubled by their high running costs. However, corporate human resource development is an investment, not a cost. Human resource development is connected to the "company power" of corporate management. By all means, let's overcome the adversity of the recession together through employee training!

How can you use e-learning to make the most of your learning?

How can e-learning be used for learning? Hello. My name is Kidaoka, I am in charge of marketing. I understand that there are many people, regardless of industry, who are concerned about the education, guidance, and training of students and young employees at schools and companies, such as training for new employees, employee education and guidance methods, declining academic performance, and study method problems. Many of you may have been appointed to be in charge of education and are worried and anxious about where to start. This problem is deep and common regardless of the industry. How can we improve the learning effect and provide reproducible education within a limited time and cost? In this article, we will discuss how to make the most of e-learning. Table of Contents 1. Learning Methods Using e-Learning What is LMS (Learning Management System) Case Studies QuizGenerator 5. learningBOX 6. Summary Learning Methods Using e-Learning First of all, e-learning is a system that enables employees to learn and study on the Internet using PCs and mobile devices. e-learning is expected to reduce the coordination, time, and cost of renting a training facility or inviting outside instructors when taking in-house training. To begin with, what is e-Learning, and for what purposes is it used and introduced? Advantages of e-Learning Self-paced learning Provides up-to-date materials to all learners in a uniform manner No time and place constraints Tailored to the individual's level of understanding, ability, and goals ・Adds depth of understanding through audio and video Conventional learning methods involve "person-to-person" education, where the instructor lectures directly to the student at a specific place and time. In contrast, e-learning is conducted via a network using terminals such as PCs, tablets, and smartphones. It is a learning style that enables students to "receive education anytime, anywhere, and at any time," and is often used interchangeably with "educational IT" and "web learning/online learning" because it is a system that combines IT information technology and network-based learning. The Internet and advances in IT technology have attracted more and more attention, and companies, schools, and society as a whole are pinning their hopes on its potential for ease of use and learning effectiveness. What is LMS (Learning Management System)? An LMS is a system that integrates and manages the delivery of learning materials, grades, etc., necessary for implementing e-learning. In general, it provides the following functions Registration, modification, and deletion of learners Registration of teaching materials and assignment of teaching materials to learners Management of individual learner's learning history, learning progress, and grades Aggregation of grades and statistical analysis functions Setting up a bulletin board for information sharing and sending e-mails to learners. Case Study We would like to introduce a case study of a teacher at a vocational school who used our learning environment to create and build an e-learning program. "A Case Study of Using e-Learning to Prepare for the National Examination for Speech-Language Pathologists" (in Japanese) Speech-language pathologists provide rehabilitation for people who have difficulty in speaking, hearing, eating, and swallowing due to illness or birth defects, and restore their language and hearing abilities. Most are three-year vocational schools or four-year universities, and for those who have already completed designated courses, there are two-year graduate schools, majors, and technical schools. Currently, 61 schools in Japan are designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare to train speech-language pathologists. Encounter with e-Learning As a teacher at a vocational school, I was in charge of preparation for the national examination for speech-language pathologists in 2017. The medical field has a very large number of subjects with a wide variety of difficult words, contents, and things to remember. When preparing for the national exam, there were not many resources and reference books available on the market, so I was very concerned about how to prepare for the national exam. How can we effectively promote good study and learning methods and bring students closer to passing the national exam? I spent my days asking myself these questions. With these thoughts in my mind, I happened to see "e-learning study" on the Internet. As I read more and more, I came across "QuizGenerator," a free web-based educational material creation service provided by Tatsuno Information Systems. Before introduction I found e-learning learning to be a great way to learn, but I wondered if I would be able to successfully create, manage, and update educational materials by myself. I had no knowledge of computers, was not very good at operating them, and the mere mention of the word "IT" made me defensive. I am not able to take a new step forward. What if I fail? The more I think about it, the more anxious I get. However, I feel sorry for the children who are going to be active in society and will be able to show their eyes in the future if I continue to study the way I have been studying and doing things the way I have been doing them. As the information society advances, we teachers and schools must adopt study methods that match the times. I decided that I had no choice but to be courageous. After the introduction One of the biggest changes since the introduction of e-learning is that students are now more motivated to learn and actively participate. Even children who had been conservative about studying began to tackle problems on their own initiative, and by learning according to their objectives and level, their ability to self-analyze and their awareness of their own weakness in studying diminished. *Unlike traditional study methods, e-learning learning is not restricted by time or place, and allows students to solve problems at their own level at their own preferred time. This is probably because of the fact that each individual can freely proceed with his or her own study without having to worry about the eyes of others. With limited time available for each student, it was difficult to provide appropriate guidance to those who needed it. The "e-learning study" we used this time overturned the passive learning style we had been using and created independence for the students. Let us introduce our e-learning service, which created the independence of the students. QuizGenerator QuizGenerator allows anyone to create quizzes easily and for free. Anyone, even those who do not know programming, can create quizzes in a wide variety of question formats! You can use it on smartphones, tablets, PCs, etc. Almost all functions are free for commercial use. Using the question creation form, you can easily create questions as if you were using Word. For advanced users, you can also register a batch of questions in Excel. If you purchase a license, you will be able to use special features such as design customization and voice reading out function! Detailed usage of QuizGenerator learningBOX Learning BOX enables more effective use and operation of teaching materials created with QuizGenerator. By using learningBOX, it is possible to distribute video materials, distribute tests and practice questions, control the order of study, and issue certificates to those who complete and pass the practice questions for each material. The actual paper-based test can be reproduced on the web. In addition to the exercises, Learning BOX has many other useful functions, such as the ability to manage reports (file submission assignments) and questionnaire totals. The service is free of charge, so please give it a try. Detailed instructions on how to use Learning BOX Conclusion In this issue, I have discussed how to use e-learning for learning. Our learning and education methods that we have taken for granted are now undergoing a period of change. QuizGenerator and Learning BOX are easy, efficient, and effective tools for e-learning. Learning BOX is a free service. Both are available free of charge, so please take this opportunity to try them out and see how easy they are to use.

CSV and Character Encoding - Avoid Character Garbling with utf8 with BOM

This is Mr. Nishimura, the representative! It's been a while since I've written a blog. I added a BOM to prevent garbled characters in Excel. Table of Contents is here. 1. learningBOX is a multilingual LMS 2. There was a flaw in the multilingual support of CSV. 3. UTF-8 is implemented to be able to select UTF-8. 4. BOM was added to prevent garbled characters in Excel 5. Scheduled to be released 6.Wanted! learningBOX is a multilingual LMS! Our e-learning system, learningBOX, is an LMS that supports multiple languages. At present, the learningBOX UI allows only Japanese and English to be selected, but the data for teaching materials and learner answers are flexible enough to support not only Japanese and English, but also Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and other languages from around the world. In fact, training materials created in various languages are being used in training programs for foreigners. There was a deficiency in the multilingual support of CSV. In spite of the claim of multilingual support, there was a deficiency in the CSV support. In the currently released version (2.14.28), CSV encoding is fixed to Shift_JIS (Windows-31J). As a result, all characters except Japanese, English, and some Chinese and Latin characters are garbled. Implemented to allow selection of UTF-8 There was a proposal to switch the character encoding of CSV output from learningBOX to UTF-8, but we decided that suddenly changing the specification would have a large impact on users, so we made it possible to choose between UTF-8 and Shift_JIS for the character encoding of CSV. (Default is Shift_JIS) BOM to prevent garbled characters in Excel When I open a UTF-8 CSV without BOM in Excel, the characters are garbled. BOM stands for "Byte Order Mark" and indicates that the character code of the file is "UTF-8". Therefore, by using UTF-8 with BOM, you can now open the file in Excel without garbled characters. *A decade ago, it was common to avoid garbled characters by making the file in UTF-16LE, but relatively recent Excel is better with utf8 with BOM. Also, considering that the character encoding in the Web world is becoming unified to utf8 and that it is easier to handle outside of Excel, we decided to use utf8 instead of UTF-16LE. Reference site: From "How to output Unicode csv that can be opened correctly in both Win and Mac Excel How to add a BOM in PHP The BOM entity is 3 bytes of data and is represented as \xEF\xBB\xBF In the case of PHP, the BOM can be attached by doing the following $csv = "\xEF\xBB\xBF".$csv; Release Schedule Depending on the results of the QA department's verification, we expect to release the product in an update next week or the week after next. For more information on the status of the release of learningBOX, please see the release notes here. Now recruiting! We are looking for learningBOX developers. We have openings for back-end engineers, front-end engineers, quality assurance engineers, project managers, and more. Thorough explanation of the basics of e-learning, how it works and how to use it! [2020-2021 My name is Kidaoka, I am in charge of marketing. This article is an easy-to-understand explanation of the basics and structure of e-Learning. What exactly is e-learning? and also covers the history and development of e-learning in detail! This article is aimed at those who want to learn and use e-learning. This article is aimed at those who want to learn and use e-learning. When you hear the word "e-learning," you may think: ...... You may be thinking, "This sounds difficult, complicated to set up, and I wonder if I can do it myself. You may feel uneasy about e-learning. Let's learn the basics of e-Learning and how it works together with the help of this article! Click here for the Table of Contents 1. What is e-Learning? 2. History of e-Learning 3. Learning Management System (LMS) Supporting e-Learning 4. Summary What is e-Learning? E-learning is a learning system that allows you to "improve your skills at your own pace, unrestricted by time or place" by using electronic devices such as computers and smartphones and the Internet. E-learning is an abbreviation of "electronic learning," and refers to "a form of learning that uses a variety of devices, such as computers, smartphones, and tablets," and is an educational method that makes learning electronic. *Although e-learning nowadays has a strong image of online learning, "offline learning," which combines content stored on recording media such as CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs, was originally common. The Beginning of e-Learning History The origins of e-learning can be traced back to the 1950s, when development began mainly in the United States, based on an idea called CAI, or "Can't computers support education? Although the development of computer-based learning systems has been around since the 1950s, at that time they were still not well known to the public. E-learning, which is used as a matter of course now, was called Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI or WBT) at that time. CAI (computer-assisted instruction or computer-aided instruction) CAI is based on pedagogy (educational technology), learning theory (learning psychology), and information science (information theory). It is the original concept behind today's e-learning, and was utilized to "use computers for school education and training. ⇒ (later to WBT) *CAI research in Japan began in the 1960s, and a pioneering system was put into practical use in the 1970s; however, it did not spread to general educational institutions due to the strong functionality of individual systems tailored to customer specifications and lack of flexibility as a system. WBT (Web Based Training) WBT refers to a system that enables students to learn by distributing educational materials via computers and other devices connected to the Internet. WBT has developed so that learning histories, as well as teaching materials and programs, can be centrally managed on a server. Features of WBT Individual learners can browse materials, take exams, etc. via the Internet Not bound by geographical or time constraints Comprised of a Learning Management System (LMS) that manages both course materials and learner history With the development of WBT and other technologies, the term e-learning emerged in the 1990s. e-learning was initially limited to learning at companies, schools, and home computers. However, as IT infrastructures advanced and smartphones and tablet devices rapidly became popular, mobile learning became possible, regardless of where or when the learning took place. About the History of e-Learning The term eLearning was first used at TechLearn 1999, held in Florida, USA, in November 1999. The various names that had been used until then, such as CAI, WBT, online learning, and distance learning, were combined and presented under the term e-learning for the first time. History of e-Learning Movements in the World 1) 1950s: Started in the U.S. The development of e-learning began mainly in the United States with the idea that computers could be used to support education. (2) 1950s: Appearance and launch of Windows 95 In 1995, Windows 95, which became explosively popular, went on sale, and personal computers spread to ordinary households. (3) 2000s: Full-scale introduction of PCs in Japan In 2000, the Mori Cabinet of the time launched the "e-Japan Concept," which aimed to create a Japanese-style IT society. 4) 2000s: Smartphones and tablets become popular In the late 2000s, smartphones such as the iPhone and Android, as well as larger tablets, began to appear, and e-learning underwent further major changes. 5) 2020s: Rapid market growth due to the coronavirus The spread of the new coronavirus will lead to a rapid increase in home-based learning at schools and telecommuting at companies. A major change in Japan occurred in the year 2000. The "e-Japan Concept" was launched by the then Mori Cabinet to create a Japanese-style IT society, and in 2001 the Japan E-Learning Consortium, a non-profit organization, was established to promote e-learning in earnest. Windows 95 was released in 1995. Windows 95 changed the history of e-learning and was the catalyst for the spread of computer-based learning and training. With the advent of e-learning, our learning has shifted from analog to digital. With the advent and evolution of e-learning, learners are now able to improve their skills 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, without worrying about who is watching. Until digital devices became commonplace, it was commonplace for our learning and training to take place in the form of so-called group classes and group training. Many learners gathered in one place, and everything from test distribution to grading and checking learning progress was costly. Nowadays, e-learning is becoming mainstream, using mobile devices such as smartphones, allowing students to study "easily, anywhere". Current Status of e-Learning and Future Challenges With the spread of the Internet, PCs, and smartphones, interactive interaction between instructors and learners has been realized. However, what is attracting attention now is a form of learning in which learners can communicate smoothly with each other to enhance the quality of learning. Communication between learners is expected to be highly effective in improving and maintaining motivation for learning. The Future of E-Learning AI is expected to be utilized in the future. By analyzing large amounts of learning data, AI is expected to further improve learning efficiency by automatically selecting learning content and materials tailored to each individual student. In addition, the use of VR is also advancing, and we are approaching an era in which e-learning will be able to solve problems that have been impossible with conventional e-learning, such as learning involving practical skills. According to Technav, a UK-based technology research firm, the VR education field is expected to grow to a $1.7 billion market by 2021, nine times its current size, making VR x education a field with great potential as a business. Learning Management System (LMS) supporting e-learning Learning Management System (LMS) LMS is an abbreviation for Learning Management System, which is a system that integrates and centrally manages the creation and distribution of learning materials and grade data necessary for e-learning. The structure of an LMS can be broadly divided into e-learning functions and management functions. By implementing an LMS, administrators can centrally manage the progress of learners and their learning outcomes. Background of LMS Development Before the telecommunications environment and in-house network were in place, the Internet was not widely used, and course materials were distributed on recording media such as CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs. In the 2000s, ADSL and fiber-optic lines spread to homes, and all PCs in companies were connected to the network. As PCs were connected to the Internet, LMS (Learning Management System) emerged as software specialized for providing e-learning on the Internet. The creation of an online e-learning learning environment, along with the widespread use of the Internet, and other factors, has expanded the opportunities for companies to adopt e-learning. When LMSs first appeared, they were primarily used by large corporations. Large companies used their capital and technological capabilities to develop their own LMS and teaching materials on that LMS, which could only be used by a small number of companies and organizations. *ADSL: An Internet service that uses an analog telephone line to transmit data through an ADSL modem. Main Functions of LMS The Japan E-Learning Consortium, a non-profit organization promoting the spread and standardization of e-learning, introduces the main functions of LMS as follows Registration, modification, and deletion of learners Registration of teaching materials, assignment of teaching materials to learners Management of individual learner's learning history, learning progress, and grades Grade tallying and statistical analysis functions Setting up a bulletin board for information sharing and sending e-mails to learners Reference source: Japan E-Learning Consortium Four major functions of LMS The LMS has four major functions: "managing teaching materials," "distributing teaching materials," "managing accounts," and "managing grades. LMS Function #1: Managing Course Materials Some LMS functions only allow the use of educational materials that have been pre-registered by the operator. A system that allows users to register their own content or create content within the system may be called an "LCMS" among LMSs. LMS Function #2: Distribution of Learning Materials All learning materials for e-learning are stored in the LMS, and the materials stored in the LMS are distributed to students' devices via the Internet. The "doing" functionality, such as playing videos, learning content, and administering exams. Although these functions are always present in any LMS, the types of learning materials that can be handled differ depending on the LMS. LMS Function 3: Managing Accounts Allow users to register themselves The administrator registers each user one by one. The administrator registers each user by CSV file. ・Administrator registers by CSV LMS Function #4: Managing Grades The LMS also records all of the learner's learning status. Therefore, even if there are many students in a large company, the learning status can be centrally managed, and learners can be managed and analyzed in various segments. Unification of standards by SCORM If LMSs are provided by many different companies and are based on different standards, user convenience and ease-of-use will be compromised. Therefore, the LMS industry proposed the establishment of a standard called SCORM. SCORM is a standard for e-learning platforms and content. It has been established by the Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative (ADL), a U.S. Department of Defense-affiliated standards organization. The SCORM standard is now the standard so that materials can be compatible even if different LMSs are used by different providers. You can read more about SCORM here. Conclusion In this article, we introduced the history of e-learning, the history of e-learning, and learning management systems that support e-learning. In the next article, we will discuss how to use e-learning and the benefits of e-learning, based on the articles introduced in this issue, in accordance with the customer's usage scenario. Thank you very much for your patience.

Advance notice of the fee structure with the addition of the new feature "Upgrade in the middle of the contract period" from Ver2.13.

Important Notice Various upgrades will be available during the contract period starting with the version upgrade to Ver. 2.13 series scheduled around January 2021. This is an advance notice of the fee structure for upgrading in the middle of the contract period in conjunction with the addition of this functionality. This is an advance notice because of the importance of the fee structure. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Please be assured that there will be no change to the existing fee structure for contracts from free to paid plans and for renewal of paid plans. (This explanation is only for the case of upgrading in the middle of the contract period.) (This is only an explanation for upgrading in the middle of the contract period.) *From Ver. 2.12, the function to add only the number of users via the web is already supported for upgrading in the middle of the contract period. The fee structure for Ver. 2.12 may be more economical than Ver. 2.13, depending on the applicable period for adding the number of users. (Depending on the contents of your contract, we may not be able to accommodate your request via the web.) Click here for Table of Contents 1. what does "upgrade in the middle of the contract term" mean? 2. 4 types of mid-contract upgrades are available 3. notes on fee structure 4. other remarks What does "upgrade in the middle of the contract term" mean? For example, have you ever done this? We need to use learningBOX in other departments at a moment's notice, and the number of accounts we have now is not enough. We are using more and more videos in our teaching materials, and we are running out of space if we stay on the starter plan. There was an urgent request from within the company for an LMS with an original design. In order to respond to these requests, we have added a new feature that allows customers to add more users or upgrade their licenses even in the middle of the contract period, without calling us. If you have any of the problems listed above, we hope you will consider this feature. In addition, we are available for upgrades by phone or email. Please feel free to contact us. (Please note that we may not be able to support your request depending on the contents of your contract or combination of contracts. Please understand in advance.) Four types of upgrades are available during the contract period The following four types of items are supported by this new functionality for upgrading during the contract period. Increase the number of users Upgrade the license (from Starter to Standard) Upgrade both the number of people and the license Add various options *This is for customers who are already using a paid plan. (The "paid plan" referred to here refers to the state of being on a paid plan for a learningBOX license; a contract for a QuizGenerator license only does not refer to a "paid plan.) *This may not be possible depending on the combination of license types and optional contracts. Please understand this beforehand. Notes on the fee structure Please be aware of the following items in connection with the functional modification from Ver. 2.13. If you are using an annual contract and add or upgrade in the middle of the contract, the monthly contract unit price may be applied (depending on the period when the change is applied). Please see the table below first. The table summarizes the fees for annual and monthly contracts. The numbers in red are the amounts for one year, which are used as the basis for the calculation. (Taxes are not included). In the case of ▼License only Currently annual contract, but monthly contract unit price will be applied at the time of upgrade. If you are currently on an annual contract (e.g., Starter/Standard), and you wish to add additional users, depending on the details and conditions (e.g., you only wish to add users for 3 months before the contract renewal), the monthly unit price will be applied to the bill for the additional users, instead of the annual unit price. Calculation example 1) I want to change from annual starter 100 to starter 200 in the middle of the contract period (contract period remains unchanged). The payment amount in Calculation Example 1 is calculated as follows Monthly per year ÷ 365 (pro-rated daily) × Number of days remaining 60,000 ÷ 365 × 171 days = 28,109.58904 ⇒ 28,109 yen *"Per year of monthly amount" is, for example, 60,000 yen, which is equivalent to 12 months of the Starter Plan's monthly contract unit price: 5,000 yen (excluding tax). *In this case, since the applicable period is less than one year, the monthly unit price is applied. The actual amount to be billed will be the monthly unit price plus consumption tax. The decimal point will be rounded down to the nearest whole number. The monthly unit price may seem expensive. Therefore, we have prepared a mitigation measure. (Relaxation measure) In the case of an annual contract, the annual contract unit price will be applied even when the number of users is added. Important】The fee calculation method will be changed from March 8, 2021. Click here for details. If you select "1 year" for "Period for which the change will be applied," the annual unit price will be applied. (Calculation Example 2) I want to change from annual starter 100 to starter 200 in the middle of a new year. The payment amount in Calculation Example 2 is calculated by the following calculation. (Contract amount of the new plan to be used from the day of upgrade to the next renewal date) - (pro-rated amount of the unused portion of the old plan as the annual unit price) = billed amount Let us explain an example of the above calculation. (Contract amount of the new plan to be used from the upgrade date to the next renewal date): June 1, 2020 - May 31, 2021 ⇒ Starter 200 (1 year): 60,000 yen (pro-rated amount of the old plan for unused portion as annual unit price): June 1, 2020 - November 18, 2020 ⇒30,000 ÷ 365 × 171 days = 14,054.7945 ⇒ 14,054 yen (per year ÷ daily rate × number of days remaining =) (Contract amount of the new plan to be used from the day of upgrade to the next renewal date) - (pro-rated amount of the unused portion of the old plan as the annual unit price) = billed amount 60,000 yen - 14,054 yen = 45,946 yen In this case, the annual unit price is applied because the applicable period is one year. The actual amount to be billed will be the amount shown here plus consumption tax. *Figures are rounded down to the nearest whole number. Other points to note If you have a contract for options (e.g., hosting/design customization), depending on the status of the option contract, the "period during which changes are applied" you can choose from may be limited, and the annual unit price may not be applied. Please refer to this table for details. ▼ Example: Adding only the number of people in the middle of the contract term Selection of the period to apply the current contract changeControl itemsBilling rate (based on unit price)Annual contractContract end date does not changeApply monthly unit price*If you have subscribed to an option, you can only select "No change in contract period "Update contract period to new annual period (select 1 year)Annual Apply a monthly unit price without changing the end date of the contract. (Select "1 month to 11 months".) If 1 month to 11 months, apply the monthly unit price. Other remarks This feature is currently under development and verification, so the specifications may be subject to change. The fee structure announced this time may also be subject to change. In that case, we will inform you separately. Details of the upgrade function will be introduced at the time of the 2.13 release. We will inform you of the upgrade schedule for the Ver2.13 series as soon as the schedule is determined. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us using the inquiry form. We look forward to your continued patronage of learningBOX.
